Advertising

The paper sells advertising space for PCs, groups and organizations at the following rates:

Ad Reference Sheet

Size Cost Best For
Standard size 10c A single-line notice—a shop’s hours, a lost-and-found, a “seeking apprentice” post.
Quarter page 15c A business-card-sized spot—a tavern’s weekly special, a tradesperson advertising their services.
Half page 25c A proper announcement—a grand opening, an engagement notice, a guild recruitment drive.
Three-quarter page 30c Room for a small illustration—a festival announcement, a big seasonal sale.
Full page 40c The whole back page—a wedding announcement, a business launch, a formal proclamation.

This is payable to Poppy in game in person, via courier, or via deposit to The Bank of Abacus. You can also just pay Shauna out-of-game if that is easier.

Poppy will take consumables, favors, or information instead of coin, but the card rates are the rates and she is not haggling with you over a standard size ad.

Placing an Ad

An ad is space, not word count, so there is more back and forth with creating one. What the desk needs is:

  • What’s being sold
  • Who’s selling it
  • The copy, or just the gist
  • Any specific look or fonts you’re picturing
  • Any wording that has to appear exactly as written
  • Whether you have art or need something made
  • The tone you’re after

Expect more back and forth than an article takes, since it’s a design job rather than an editing one, and expect a proof before it runs. Ads have the same two-week deadline as everything else.

Poppy has refused an ad on principle exactly once. It ran the following month; the principle is apparently negotiable.
